Change can be challenging for some. At times change is welcomed and sometimes it’s forced. It can take people out of their comfort zone. I know there have been times (especially throughout my career) where I have gotten complacent and didn’t want to make changes, even when the signs where there. Change could be; ending an unhealthy relationship, making a job/career change, doing things different than you used to, moving and so much more. I have learned that whether change is welcomed or forced it helps to find the silver lining and look for the positives in the change. Here are some suggestions;
- Challenge your old belief systems about stepping out of your comfort zone. Identifying the thoughts and feelings associated with whatever change is occurring can be helpful. Once you have identified the thoughts you can change the negative ones that no longer serve you.
- Have faith in the process. Trusting in the magic of the change can be powerful. When you trust that all things are working in your favor you are more likely to see the gems in the change. It also allows you to be clearer on what it is you want to get out of the change.
- Accept that change is often times inevitable. What we resist persists, so by accepting what is can help you embrace it. When we accept something, we accept all parts of it knowing it can be temporary if we decide that’s what we want.
- Navigating which direction you want to go once you have identified what the change is can help with the decision making and the next step. It may feel like the decision making is endless and the uncertainty of things may stir up some fear. I have said this in some of my blogs before, and it’s something I practice myself, feel the fear and do it anyways.
- Growth is a part of change. It may feel hard at first but what if you described it as new instead? Growth and transformation can be fun if you choose to enjoy it and tackle it head on. It also helps to understand that perfection doesn’t exist and you are bound to make mistakes in the process. Loving yourself in spite of it all is what’s important.
- Embrace the new. There are lots of exciting things that happen when change occurs. You get to meet new people, explore new places, and learn new skills. Change is sometimes a blessing in disguise or a much needed kick in the butt from the universe.
