Have you ever gotten that pit in your stomach when you’re about to try something different or meet someone new? A feeling so strong that it makes you want to change your mind? Fear is defined as ”an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat”. I challenge that definition, is It really unpleasant or can we choose to look at fear in a different light? I have chosen to look at it from a different light. When you allow yourself to feel the fear you are more likely to learn where that fear is coming from. Often times when fear is stopping you from conquering your deepest desires and dreams it’s attached to the false beliefs, “I’m not good enough”, “I can’t do it”, “it won’t work out”, “I can’t have what I want”, etc. Here are some suggestions and ways to see fear differently;
- Just like the book by Susan Jeffers suggests, Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway – When we allow ourselves to feel the fear we can learn when it’s coming from. Stepping into the fear is one way to push through the discomfort of doing something you didn’t think you could do. Magic happens when we take a chance and stand firm in that discomfort to accomplish our dreams. Without taking chances we wouldn’t know just how much of a rock star we really are.
- Choose to stand in your power – The more you practice being empowered the more your confidence will increase and your fear will decrease. Breathe through the fear and remind yourself “I got this”. The more powerful you are the stronger your intention and ultimately the more likely you are to manifest your biggest dreams.
- Don’t quit – So it didn’t work the first time, or the second, there is still time for a third and fourth time. Be kind to yourself, standing in your power and stepping through your fear takes practice. Use fear as a motivation to push yourself further instead of letting it keep you stuck. In the words of Billy Ocean, “When going gets tough, the tough get going”.
